DxE worked with employees at Iowa Select Farms to expose the gruesome mass killing of pigs via "ventilation shutdown," a practice where pigs are roasted alive by pumping steam into barns. Based on a whistleblower tip, our team secured video footage of the practice and publicized it in an article by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Glenn Greenwald.

Shortly after, Iowa Select Farms announced it would no longer use "ventilation shutdown." This spared hundreds of thousands of pigs from an excruciating death and protected workers from the trauma of being forced to torture animals.

When workers at a Smithfield slaughterhouse in Wisconsin faced a COVID-19 outbreak and were forced to work without protective gear, we connected them to a journalist who reported on the story while keeping the employees anonymous.
