From French Revolutionary newspapers to the disability rights magazines of the late twentieth century, the press has always been a hotbed of agitation for social movements. The phrase "Come Out!" was popularized as the title of the paper of the early 1970s Gay Liberation Front (although the phrase originated much earlier). The very ideas underlying the U.S. Constitution were circulated and refined in published exchanges.

This month, activists are taking a step to use the press to agitate for animals. The Berkeley Animal Rights newsletter appeared last weekend and can be found around Berkeley discussing rescued animals, recent activism, and news about animal rights. We welcome brief submissions from anyone involved in animal rights, especially, but not limited to, Berkeley. Give the first edition a read below.
